Scarlatti sonatas unusual notehead

Hello All, my first post: I would like to know what the name of the unusual note head is that is featured all throughout the digital typreset Scarlatti sonatas- a small handwritten kind of note. I have not seen this before in modern editions of anyones music, and I cannot see a musical reason for it, given that it is piano music. It is also more than a little difficult to read and distracting. I am just trying to get my head around why these would be included. I assume Scarlatti wrote these in himself, as the typresetter has gone to great pains to notate 500+ sonatas. But still I find it too distracting, and just for the sake of purity, I feel it is a step too far, unless there is a distinct reason, such us detaiing specific phrases etc.. But I can't see any method or continuity in their usages. Much thanks all the same for perservering with the typesetting task all the same!
Best Wishes

Sorry to repeat myself, but could you please post an URL where you found such a retypeset Scarlatti sonata? I guess you mean one typeset by John Sankey, e.g. Sonata K 103 here: http://imslp.org/wiki/Keyboard_Sonatas, ... _Domenico)

The funny note heads denote the hand assignments. http://web.ncf.ca/bf250/scarlattimus.html

Hi, yes, that's the one, and yes I finally found where he has written the hand assignments. I don't see where you were repeating yourself, but appology accepted, all the same.
Did D. Scarlatti provide these hand assignments himself? I am yet to find such on the net. Thanks again

This typesetter didn't notate more than 176 sonatas. :| http://web.ncf.ca/bf250/scarlatti/index.html
