Paderewski Editions in US

Post by potatoboi »

From my understanding, I thought the Paderewski editions of Chopin's works were not under copyright in the US. However, some of his editions on IMSLP (such as the Etudes here: https://imslp.org/wiki/Etudes_(Chopin%2C_Frédéric)) are marked as Public Domain while some of his other editions (such as the Ballade here: https://imslp.org/wiki/Ballade_No.1%2C_ ... _Frédéric)) are marked as non-PD US. Can I upload these scores freely from the US?

As long as the edition is PD in Canada, its eligible. Doesn't matter about the USA status in this case.

Since Paderewski died in 1941, his works were never URAA-eligible to begin with, and this was published without a notice. Therefore, that edition is PD-US.
